Breaking news! Our lungs are in terrible danger. Hold up! It has always been but with the present threat of severe air pollution there is no doubt that our lungs face the biggest threat. Lung diseases are not just acquired through airborne but they are also acquired because of undernutrition or the foods that we eat so to say.
Kings College London and Nottingham University published in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine say that Avocado, spinach and other rich in vitamin E can protect your lungs from particulates caused by having air pollution.
Particulates are dangerous particles that may enter your lungs from smoggy areas. These particles can caused heart attacks, cancer, stroke, hypertension and diabetes.
A study made by Dr. Ana Valdes of Nottingham University and a co-author of the study, said: “Our work builds on a number of studies exploring whether some vitamins can counteract the negative effect on lungs caused by air pollution.”
That study by Dr. Valdes involves five thousand plus people from London and 500 of them had higher level of particulates in their lungs – they had lower lung function.
A study also made by Shizuoka University in Japan found that avocados also protect against liver damage caused by the hepatitis viruses. Precisely how this happens, and if it will happen in humans—the study involved rats—is not entirely clear.
A high level of vitamin E is a key for a strong immunity and a high antioxidant that protects cells from damage. That’s how majestic this green wrinkled fruit 1.3 milligrams of Vitamin E. A 3.5-ounce serving provides around ten percent of the recommended daily allowance of Vitamin E.
So the greatest solution to this dilemma is to eat the right foods and keep our lungs healthy. Pollution can never be eradicated most especially the times we live in today, but we can always help ourselves in preventing acquiring lung diseases by eating the right foods, getting the right amount of sleep and living a healthy lifestyle.
