This year’s competition for beauty pageants, Philippines brought 3 crowns: Miss Globe, Miss Earth and Miss Universe. Kudos Filipina!
Miss Globe 2015
October 8, 2015 at Toronto Canada, Ann Lorraine Maniego Colis of Philippines won the crown as Miss Globe 2015. She made the history as the first ever Filipina who own the title. She defeated the fifty-four other beauties around the globe that competed in the pageant. It was also the first time that Philippines sent their delegates for the competition.
Ann Lorraine Colis, a 22-year-old Bachelor of Science in Management Accounting graduate from the University of Santo Tomas. Standing 5 foot 7, Colis worked as a runway model prior to joining Binibining Pilipinas 2015 where she won Binibining Pilipinas-Tourism. Her title however was then upgraded into Binibining Pilipinas-Globe.
Miss Earth 2015
Miss Earth 2015 was held at Marx Halle in Vienna, Austria on December 5, 2015. It was the first time that the pageant was held outside the Asia, and also the first back to back victories in the Miss Earth history. Miss Angelia Ong of Philippines was crowned as Miss Earth 2015 succeeding Philippines’ Jamie Herrell, Miss Earth 2014.
Angelia beat up the 85 other contenders for the crown.
During the Question and Answer portion, Angelia was asked to come up with the slogan for the next 15 years of Miss Earth. She confidently answered: “We will, because we can.” She then explained: “I want to let everyone know that all things are possible and all things are feasible if we work together. We will, because we can. ”
Miss Universe 2015
Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach of Philippines defeated the 79 other contestants of the much coveted Miss Universe crown. She owned the crown as Miss Universe 2015 in Las Vegas, USA. Philippines own the crown after 42 years. Cagayan de Oro is Pia’s hometown; she is a proud Kagay-anon, who is a beauty pageant veteran.
She was initially declared as Miss Universe First Runner Up and after three minutes, Steve Harvey then asked for an apology that he was mistaken. The crown was then removed from Miss Colombia and given to Wurtzbach. The show was abruptly ended without Wurtzbach performing the traditional walk with the crown.
She was asked: “Why should you be the next Miss Universe?” Wurtzbach confidently answered: “To be a Miss Universe is an honor and a responsibility. If I were to be Miss Universe I will use my voice to influence the youth and I would raise awareness to certain causes like HIV awareness that is timely and relevant to my country, which is the Philippines. I want to show the world, the universe rather, that I am confidently beautiful with a heart.”
